| Bleaching is
the process of using peroxides to brighten your teeth. It is very
safe and has been done for over thirty years, although
the process has become a lot more efficient, simple to do and effective.
It does not weaken the tooth or enamel nor does it make the teeth
more prone to future problems such as tooth decay. For some people
it can make the teeth slightly sensitive to cold temperatures or "achy,"
but this typically lasts only 1 to 2 days and there are steps we can
suggest to minimize it. |

| The new whiteness
of your teeth is semi-permanent - just as your natural teeth darken
as time progresses, so will your bright new smile darken as time goes
on. However, it may take up to a year or more for you to notice a
difference. Generally your teeth will always be whiter than if you
had not bleached your teeth. |
| |
| When comparing
photographs of some of our patients who had their teeth whitened many
years ago, we can see there has been a change, but their teeth are
still whiter than before. If this is a concern for you, it can be
prevented by a short and simple touch up procedure to bring the brightness
back to their original state. |
